Archaeological Monitoring of Construction Sites

When potential archaeological sites may be present, or when identified historic resources may be affected, cultural supervision of construction sites can be necessary. When development activities proceed in areas known to contain archaeological sites, the presence of a cultural resources professional can help identify potentially significant cultural features and make plans to actively mitigate the impacts in real time. Monitoring is usually agreed to beforehand as a means of site mitigation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), or a PA.
